Organization

NYF operates as a U.S. tax-exempt public charitable organization under section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code. Donations to NYF are tax-deductible under U.S. law.

NYF is governed by a volunteer Board of Directors, a group of highly committed individuals who are very active in the organization. Most have been to Nepal several times. NYF's staff in Nepal, which is entirely Nepali, is led by Som Paneru, Executive Director-Nepal.

The NYF USA office is headed by Olga Murray, NYF's full-time, pro-bono president and founder. Olga is supported by Janis Olson (NYF's Executive Director-U.S.), staff, consultants, and volunteers. NYF’s supporters are an integral part of our organization; they not only provide financial support, but raise awareness, share ideas, and help with fundraising as well.

NYF was re-accredited through Nepal's Social Welfare Council, which holds agreements with all International Non-Governmental Organizations (INGOs) working in Nepal. This process is required at least every five years. Four specialists investigated every aspect of NYF's operations in Nepal for a month. NYF not only passed with flying colors, but received many commendations.

NYF’s good governance has been recognized by Charity Navigator, America’s largest independent evaluator of charities, which has granted NYF a four-star rating, the highest possible, for effective and efficient administration of the funds which you, our donors, contribute. Like most other programs providing social services in Nepal, NYF operates under an agreement with the Social Welfare Council in Kathmandu.

NYF's operations in Nepal are overseen by Som Paneru, Executive Director/Nepal. Som is one of the young men who completed college on one of NYF's earliest scholarships.
