Meet the Children

Who is responsible for the happy endings of these stories? Our donors are. Without the generosity of NYF's many donors, Santosh would have spent his entire life as a cowherd, and Sajani would still be living in the forest, covered with sores and lice. Sapana would be begging for food in her village, and Maya would still be living in the open with no caretaker but her aged grandfather. We thank NYF's donors from the bottom of our hearts.

Each of the children we help has a story – sometimes tragic, sometimes harrowing, but always inspiring. We could tell hundreds of stories. Here are only a few. (Please note that out of respect for the children, we have changed some names.)

Nirmala is one of NYF's great success stories. A blind girl born to a poor family in rural Nepal, Nirmala graduated from Colorado State University last year. She now gives back to people in Nepal by working for the United Nations. Read Nirmala's inspirational story and watch a video about her!

Sajani, who is from a primitive aboriginal tribe, had no one to care for her since her parents died. She was found wandering the forest alone, and now has a secure home at K House.

Maya was blessed by love, living in an ancient ruin. Her story reveals the true meaning of "family."

Sapana was orphaned when her father killed her mother and baby brother and she had to beg for food to survive. Now she is doing well in school and is delighted to be a part of the K House family.

Santosh lost both of his parents when he was very young, but he now lives at J House and no longer has to herd cows all day.

NYF Kids Are Giving Back! What happens to NYF's children when they grow up? Many of our "graduates" have begun giving back to society – entering social service professions, organizing chariy projects, and raising awareness about the disabled. Click here for some of these heartwarming stories.

Pushpa is determined to become a nurse, despite the abuse she has endured at home.

Before Kamala received a scholarship from NYF, she couldn't even afford pens and pencils.

Menuka appreciates getting the same education as wealthier people, and wants to work for women's rights.

Sita calls her scholarship from NYF her "golden opportunity", and is committed to become a doctor and help the poor in remote regions of Nepal.
