The Indentured Daughters Program | Freeing Nepali Girls
Ending child slavery in Nepal

How We Plan to Put the Labor Contactors Out of Business

NYF is ambitious. Our goal is nothing less than to eradicate the custom of bonding children in Nepal, and we plan to accomplish this within the next few years.

Man Bahadur Chhetri of the Indentured Daughters ProgramThe hero of this project is Man Bahadur Chhetri, who oversees the program. He has an uncanny knack of winning the confidence of the communities in which he works, and as we experienced on many field visits, he is viewed with respect and affection by the locals. He lives in the area, simply. We owe the success of this project to his intelligence, deep knowledge of the community, and commitment to ending the practice of bonding children.

In 2009, largely as a result of lobbying by NYF, the government of Nepal allocated more than $1 million each year for education, vocational training and housing for former bonded servants. This relieved us of the financial burden of providing scholarships to the thousands of liberated girls, letting us focus on freeing girls who are still enslaved.

Girls rescued from slavery at their new school

"NYOF will continue to liberate girls, provide goats and piglets as incentives, and implement our awareness program. It looks as though we will reach our goal of eradicating the bonding practice sooner now," said Olga Murray, NYF’s founder and president.

Since the government funds are only used to help girls who have been rescued, we need your support to free the girls who are still enslaved. Remember, for only $100 you can change the life of one of these children forever. Please give as generously as you can.
