NYF's Wish List for New Programs

The Nepal Youth Foundation would like to start several programs, provided we receive enough donations for the full cost of the project. Here are a few items on our "wish list." • Building Schools and Classrooms for Girls Rescued from Bonded Servitude

Our Indentured Daughters Program has rescued more than ten thousand girls from bonded servitude and returned them to their families in rural western Nepal. Thousands of these girls are now attending school, with the unexpected effect that many schools in western Nepal are overflowing. Students crowd around the doors and windows to listen to the classes, and some teachers hold classes outside in the searing heat of summer and frigid cold of winter. Furthermore, some of the schools are badly in need of maintenance and are on the verge of collapse.

If we receive enough funding to construct a school or classroom, we will build one. There is an almost unlimited need for classrooms in this region.

• Student Housing in Rural Nepal

In much of rural Nepal, the terrain is very rugged and there are few roads. Many children must walk for hours every day to get to school, which gives them little time to study and leads many to drop out. We want to build dormitories at some of the most remote schools, which we will do if we obtain funding to complete the project.

• Reconstructing a School in Gorkha

In rural Gorkha district, a very large public school that educates more than 1,000 students is literally falling apart. The classrooms are overcrowded, the school lacks water and electricity, and the quality of education is diminishing. However, most students there have no alternative. The school desperately needs:
• Construction of new buildings
• Reconstruction of old buildings
• Additional classrooms
• A playground
• A fully equipped library
• A science laboratory
We are seeking donors who will fund the complete expense of any of these projects.
